Most of the highest-rated chefs in the world had little or no college. Admittedly, this is largely because a lot of them are French, and the French school system allows children to basically start an apprenticeship at a young age. If you’re interested in molecular gastronomy then some background in lab chemistry is probably worthwhile, and of course you’re going to need to learn the basics of running a business. The actual cooking is generally learned by apprenticing in the kitchen of a first-rate restaurant.

I would recommend going to AI in Chicago. I am also looking to become a chef when I get out of school. I too am in the 10th grade, but I am not in boarding school. I am home-schooled, and have been all my life. I am gonna go to AI when I get out of high school. Take sanitation courses. Take some cooking classes ahead of time so you can get partially prepared.
