Learn to cook.
Try more interesting recipes, something that looks impressive. Use cool garnish. Then again, I’m vegan, so I’d mostly support veggies. Also try talking to chefs at formal restaurants who will offer input.
go to culinary school - there are lots of good ones around
Start cooking. Go to a culinary school.
Take all the cooking classes they offer and see if they go through vocational training through the school. That’s what my school did.
There are at least two paths to “Chefdom”. You can either enroll in a cooking school, and work your way up, or you can start low on the totem pole in a very good restaurant & work your way up.
Chemistry & math skills are both very useful for a professional cook.
Good luck!
If you are in the US, these links might help:
First learn to prepare different kinds of food with a consistent flavor. Join a program. Many community colleges offer 3 month programs which teach you the very basics of how to become a chef. If you feel that is the way to go, then try a degree in culinary. Good Luck.
Maybe you will cook for me one day when I visit your restaurant. 20% discount.
Any of the culinary schools would be fine, but some are better and/or more expensive than others.
You can just start out working in restaurants, but that’s about as close to slavery as you can get in this day and age.
At your age, you might want to decide what kind of cusine you are interested in learning to prepare… if you like Italina foods then you don’t want to go to a French restaurant for training… at least at first.
Hi,
So you want to be a Chef.
As a Certified Chef for several decades, here are the facts:
Choosing a new career as a “Professional Chef” can be a lot of fun and very rewarding, if you truly love to cook and are prepared to make a long-term commitment to yourself. The term “Chef” is often misused. The word “Chef” is French, the meaning is Chief or Head of the Kitchen. The title of “Chef” should be reserved for those who have earned it. Use the word “Chef” with respect since you will want that respect after you have earned the title. A Professional Chef is a craftsman, who should be a highly trained individual with many skills, including cooking, management, organization and supervision. A good Chef should also have excellent tasting / flavor knowledge skills as well as artistic creative abilities. continued here:
Ask Jeeves or get a cook book from the library.
Yes…first get a job in a hotel kitchen or a full service restaurant, preferably not a chain but a privately owned one in your area that has great reviews so you can decide if the hours and pace is ok with you.
Then you need to apply to the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y…..It’s the best training school for chefs in the country.
