    My mother worked as a pastry chef. It seemed like a lot of long hours and hard work on your feet all day. There’s also competition in the kitchen between the other “chefs”: head check, sous chef, etc. I would recommend that you go to a couple nice places that have pastry chefs and ask them about their daily responsibilities (hours per day, per week) and opportunities for advancement.
